Everything in life exists in movement. Our actions fill each moment of every day and night revealing who we are through the physical expression of thoughts and feelings. To become aware of that embodied wisdom, of sensing and feeling, and of its role in relationship to self, others and the world around us, is to become more informed and more empowered to live well. |

Movement is that which is seen and that which is not, that which is easily apparent and that which is more elusive and hidden. The inner life of the body is filled with subtle activity that miraculously keeps us alive and able to carry out our daily lives. Each cell within the body has its unique part to play in how well and happy we feel and how effectively we express our desires and intentions. Together they bring us health with harmony and balance or they create disease and pain.

| somatic movement SOMA..................is not an object but a process. In the same
way life is not a 'what' but a 'how.' To understand the soma and its
process is to understand the 'how of life.' |

This improvisational approach to moving and expression nurtures a sensing-feeling body and its inner life of energy and impulse as a reference point and deep source for authentic expression. Concerned with the integration of body and mind it explores personal and subjective experience of the process of moving from inside out. Somatic movement begins with re-awakening sensory awareness where it may have become lost or forgotten. This wisdom is constantly informing us of where we are in space and time. In response to that and as awareness of the inner impulses to move become recognisable, so too do habitual patterns of movement and behaviour. Conscious embodiment moves us closer towards self-knowing through heightened awareness of the art of perception. |

| About me |

| My inspiration lies in nature and the turning year. Extensive travels and cross-cultural exchange in India, and studies with Suprapto Suryodarmo, an Indonesian artist, and Helen Poyner, movement artist based in Dorset, (www.walkoflife.co.uk) are all important influences. Interdisciplinary arts practice has evolved through sound and fine art, movement, theatre, and performance whilst the emphasis on creating work as an independent dancer has been developed through solo performance and long-term collaborative partnerships. Most notable of these is with fine artist Andrew Walton, www.andrewwaltonartist.org.uk) and singer, Jenna Monroe (www.jennamonroe.co.uk). As director and choreographer of Dance House East & Co., founded with dance artists in East Yorkshire, I finally shifted from theatre into site-specific performance. Today that is with the seamless, audience-performer creation of transformative earth ritual where somatic practice resonates with the forms and energies of nature. | |||

I am registered by the International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association (www.ismeta.org) as Somatic Movement Therapist and Educator (RSMT/RSME), and am Visiting Lecturer at University of Wales, Newport. The principles of Body Mind Centering(R), Infant Movement Development and Authentic Movement, from Integrative Bodywork and Movement Therapy-UK (www.ibmt.co.uk); Biodynamic Massage Therapy; and the foundations of Buddhist core process psychotherapy, come together with a common focus in somatic experience as foundational to wellbeing. | |||
